What UI states should an AI generation screen show?
Design clear waiting, running, review, failure, and completion states for a long-running generation task.
What UI states should an AI generation screen show?
A generation screen needs to explain what is happening and what the user can do. A spinner alone is rarely enough for a multi-stage media workflow.
Match the underlying job
Distinguish queued work from active processing and completed output. Use stage labels that come from the job model. Show a review state when user action is required, and display a result only after it is available. Avoid fabricated progress percentages or promises of exact completion times without evidence.
Make next actions explicit
Offer the actions appropriate to each state: edit a draft, leave and return, retry a recoverable failure, or preview the final file. Explain whether cancellation stops active work immediately or only requests a stop. Design a temporary connection-error message separately from a failed job. Test the screen with a slow worker and a page reload to check that the visible state remains truthful.
