Why Standard Resume Headings Help Readability

Section headings are navigation. Familiar labels such as Work Experience, Education, Projects, and Skills tell readers what follows. Some application systems may also use headings when organizing extracted text, although systems vary. A creative heading is rarely worth the risk of making a section harder to identify.

What to do

Choose the most direct label for each section. “Selected Work” might work for a portfolio, but “Projects” can be clearer on a conventional resume.
Keep headings visually distinct and consistent. Do not use the same style for a section heading and a minor subheading if that blurs the hierarchy.
Check that content sits under the correct heading after export. Page breaks and complex columns can sometimes separate a heading from its first entry.

Example

If you have paid roles and internships, “Work Experience” is an understandable umbrella heading. If the section contains only coursework, “Projects” may be more honest.

Let headings describe the content plainly; save personality for the evidence in your entries. Consistency also helps you rearrange sections for different roles without creating a new visual system each time.
