Explore the responsibilities of the interface, backend, model integration, database, file storage, and background processing.

What are the main parts of an AI-powered application?

An AI-powered application combines several responsibilities around a model. Understanding those responsibilities helps you plan the project without immediately committing to a particular framework or cloud service.

Interface and backend

The interface collects input and presents progress, results, and errors. The backend validates requests, checks permissions, coordinates the workflow, and calls services that require private credentials.

For a video-creation example, the browser might submit a brief while the backend creates the project and requests a script. Private service credentials belong in a trusted server environment rather than browser-delivered code.

Model integration and processing

A model integration translates the application's needs into a request and handles the returned result. The application should check whether that result is usable before passing it to another stage.

Some work may involve conventional processing, such as combining audio with visuals. Longer tasks can be handled by a worker so the interface can display progress independently. This is a division of responsibilities; a small project does not necessarily need a separate deployed service for every responsibility.

Database and file storage

A database can track users, project ownership, script versions, and job status. Object storage can hold generated media. The database typically keeps references to those files so the application can associate each result with its project.

These systems must agree about completion. Saving a record that says “ready” before the output file exists can leave the user with a broken download.

Sketch the path of one request through these parts. For each boundary, identify the data passed, the permission checked, and the failure the application must handle. That sketch is a useful starting point for later architecture and API design.

The product must also manage input, permissions, saved work, progress, and output delivery. A model call provides one capability within that larger workflow.

The database can track structured project information and file references. Object storage can hold the actual audio, images, and video files associated with those records.

No. Separate responsibilities in your design first. Deployment boundaries should follow the project's processing needs and complexity rather than a fixed service count.
