How does Instagram OAuth connect an account to your application?
OAuth lets a user authorize platform access without giving your application their Instagram password. The application must bind the result to the correct local user and connection attempt.
Start and validate the authorization flow
Create a connection attempt associated with the signed-in user. Use a state value that the callback verifies to protect the association. Redirect through the configured authorization flow and handle cancellation explicitly. Do not let an arbitrary callback attach an account to whichever local session happens to be open.
Exchange and store on the server
Exchange the returned authorization code using the matching flow and redirect URI. Keep app secrets and tokens in trusted server handling. Save the resulting platform account identity, granted access, and token metadata with the local connection. Verify a safe account-read operation before showing “connected.” Test success, denial, and an invalid state value.
