Final Resume Checklist Before You Apply

The final review is where you catch errors that an editor preview may hide. Check both the substance of the resume and the file that will actually reach the employer. A few focused minutes can prevent a broken link, outdated title, or clipped page from weakening an otherwise strong application.

What to do

Confirm the resume matches the target role: relevant experience is prominent, skills are supported, and no important requirement you genuinely meet has been omitted.
Proofread names, dates, job titles, numbers, and contact details. Read bullets aloud or ask someone else to review them for ambiguity and repeated wording.
Open the exported file separately. Check page breaks, selectable text, links, and the requested file format. If an application system extracts fields, verify those fields too.

If a final edit pushes one project bullet onto a mostly empty last page, shorten or reflow the content while preserving legibility.

Submit the tested file, not merely the version that looked correct inside the builder. Keep a copy of the job description and submitted resume so you can prepare for any follow-up conversation.
