How to Write a Data Analyst Resume

A data analyst resume should show how you moved from raw information to a useful conclusion. Tools such as SQL or spreadsheets are relevant, but a hiring team also needs to know the question you answered and how the result was used. Describe data limitations honestly.

What to do

Explain the business or research question, dataset, analysis method, and output. A dashboard is more meaningful when its audience and purpose are clear.
Mention cleaning, validation, and documentation when you did that work. These tasks often determine whether results are trustworthy.
Use metrics with context. State the period and denominator where they matter, and avoid implying your analysis caused an outcome unless that relationship is supported.

Example

“Combined three support datasets in SQL and built a weekly dashboard that highlighted recurring ticket categories for team review” explains the analysis and its use.

Show how your work helped someone understand a problem or make a decision. If the analysis was exploratory and no action followed, describe the finding honestly rather than implying a business result.
