How do I check if my resume is ATS-friendly?
Check resume text, layout, and application fields for ATS readability.
How do I check if my resume is ATS-friendly?
Start by checking whether the information in your resume can be extracted correctly. Use clear headings and readable text, and inspect any fields populated by the application portal. A checker score alone does not establish compatibility with every applicant tracking system.
What to do
-
Select and copy text from the exported document. Check that names, job titles, dates, and bullets remain readable and in a sensible order. This is a useful check, not a full ATS simulation.
-
Inspect the application form after uploading. Correct incorrectly populated fields before submitting, even when the document looks normal in your PDF viewer.
-
If important text is missed, simplify the layout and export again. Greenhouse documents parsing problems with image-based resumes, complex tables, columns, and contact details inside headers or text boxes.
Example
If copying a project entry mixes its description with text from the adjacent column, try a simpler export layout and repeat the check.
Also check relevance to the role. Readable text helps information transfer, but does not establish whether an employer will select the application.
