How do you split captions into readable segments?
Group timed text into meaningful phrases and check that viewers have enough time and space to read it.
How do you split captions into readable segments?
Readable captions preserve meaning while respecting the visual space and pace of the video. Splitting by a fixed character count alone can produce awkward fragments.
Segment around language
Prefer phrase boundaries and avoid separating closely related words when possible. Keep each cue associated with the speech it represents. Review punctuation and line breaks after automatic segmentation. Long names or technical terms may need special attention so they do not overflow or disappear too quickly.
Test the rendered presentation
Check a narrow display, bright and dark backgrounds, and areas occupied by faces or destination overlays. Use a legible font, sufficient contrast, and stable positioning. Avoid a single universal reading-speed rule without considering audience and language. Watch at normal speed and adjust cues that require pausing to understand. Retest timing after changing segmentation because combining or splitting cues can affect perceived synchronization.
