How do you show generation progress without misleading users?

Use backend job state and accurate stage labels to explain ongoing work.

How do you show generation progress without misleading users?

Progress feedback should answer whether work is waiting, running, blocked, or complete. It should remain accurate when the user reloads or loses connectivity.

Read the authoritative state

Use the job status endpoint and map known states to clear labels. Stop polling when appropriate and avoid overlapping requests that can apply stale responses out of order. If the backend cannot measure a percentage, show a stage such as preparing audio or assembling video.

Separate observation from processing

A browser network error means the current state could not be retrieved; it does not necessarily mean the worker failed. Keep the last known state with an explanation and a way to refresh. Test a queued job, a slow stage, a failed job, and a completed job after reload. Only enable preview or download when the output is actually available and authorized.

Not unless it represents real measured progress. Otherwise use honest stage-based feedback.

It should stop or reduce according to the view’s needs once a terminal state is reached.

A delayed older response could make a completed or newer state appear to move backward.
